How does Genre and Audience relate?

In order to know to begin writing, one must understand to whom is he writing for and for what purpose. Audience is the people whom the author is trying to inform, persuade, or entertain. Genre is the type of work that the author is using to convey a certain message like a blog post about food, a review for the latest blockbuster film, or a fictional short story for entertainment. If an author wants to write a political essay about decline of the Republican Party in 2016, his audience would be people who are interested in politics and his genre would be a persuasive essay. Every genre has a specific audience who seeks out that specific genre for many purposes such as a murder mystery novel or an autobiography of Albert Einstein. Everything starts with the audience because they are the one who will be reading the essay, blog, or other form of writing. However, genre also contributes greatly for the success of the work as well so both audience and genre is necessary for any work to exist.

  1. Good job! I see a few grammatical/mechanical errors, but you do a great job in defining the key terms "audience" and "genre," and then giving appropriate examples of each. Your first few examples pertain to writing genres. "Murder mystery" would be more of a literary genre than a writing genre, but your example makes sense given the rest of the context you have provided.
